SCHOOL OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING AND ANALYTICAL SCIENCE – THE UNIVERSITY OF MANCHESTER

Process Mixing Group

This group is led by Dr Cláudio Fonte and Dr Thomas Rodgers. The main aim of our research is to advance the understanding of mixing phenomena and to help identify solutions for industrial processes. We work across different sectors, including personal care products, food, fine chemicals, catalysts, and polymers; and across different operations, including multi-phase batch mixing, in-line mixing, high-shear systems, emulsification, and confined impinging jets.

To undertake this research, we use advanced experimental and numerical techniques, including Process Tomography, PIV, microPIV, PLIF, high-speed imaging and Computational Fluid Dynamics (ANSYS Fluent, OpenFoam). Our research lab is equipped with cutting-edge research equipment across different scales.
